I’ve knocked up this post to let my friends see what I’m thinking. The images here are very much snapshots of a work in progress.
I have some general ideas:
- Add landing legs
- Give the saucer section a Forbidden Planet style hyper-drive
I’m not sure how I’m going to do those things so I’m just knocking things together to see how they look.
I don’t think that I will come back to this post later to make things better. I suppose blog posts are meant to be, mostly, unedited. (Maybe that’s why I don’t like the format. Maybe it will grow on me.)
Landing Legs
The saucer has doors that could deploy landing legs. I didn’t know if they could reach the ground so I just rotated the door trims down by 40 degrees and I turned on the ground plane to see what would happen.
There’s a lot of work to do but it is feasible to add landing legs.
Hyper-drive
My hyper-drive is the red ring above the planetary sensor. It would look better animated.
I don’t want any part of the saucer section hull touching the ground so I’m going to need landing gear doors. Modern planes just seem to have simple, rectangular, flaps but WW2 planes were more tailored.
