Halo CE Grunt — Blender Animations

About the Blender file

This Blender file contains the Halo: Combat Evolved Grunt model,
armature, and its imported animation Actions.

The model and animations were imported directly from the Halo CE Editing
Kit (HCEEK) tags using the Halo Asset Blender Development Toolset.

The original import produced 89 Actions. Twelve JMO-derived overlay
Actions were removed from this distribution because they can be
confusing when selected and played as ordinary standalone animations.

The supplied file therefore contains 77 Actions.

Textures are not included.

Playing an animation

1. Open grunt-initial-animations-no-jmos-for-upload.blend in Blender.
2. Select the Grunt armature.
3. Open the Dope Sheet and switch it to Action Editor if necessary.
4. Use the Action selector to choose an animation.
5. Press Play in Blender’s timeline to view it.

The file includes ordinary animation types such as idles, movement,
turns, reactions, deaths, grenade throwing, and other Grunt animations.

Optional frame-range sync script

action_frame_range_sync.py is provided to make browsing the Actions
easier.

Its purpose is to keep Blender’s playback frame range synchronized with
the currently selected Action. This avoids having to manually change the
timeline start and end frames each time you select an animation with a
different length.

Use the script in Blender if you want automatic frame-range adjustment
while browsing the animation Actions.

About JMO animations

JMO-derived Actions have intentionally been removed from this download.

JMO files are commonly used for overlay-style animation data such as
aiming, looking, acceleration, and some weapon-related overlays. These
are not always meaningful when played by themselves like ordinary
full-body animations and can appear strange or confusing without the
game’s animation system combining them with other animation data.

Removing them leaves a simpler set of animations for selecting and
playing directly in Blender.

Source and requirements

The model and animation data originate from Halo: Combat Evolved / the
Halo CE Editing Kit.

This Blender file was created using the Halo Asset Blender Development
Toolset and the HCEEK Grunt tags.

This download does not include the original HCEEK tags, extracted
JMS/JMA files, or textures.

Notes

This file is intended as a convenient Blender reference for viewing and
working with the Halo CE Grunt and its animations.

Keep a separate copy before making destructive edits if you want to
preserve the supplied animation setup.
